Show & Tell: Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness Ft. MGMT & Ratatat

September 8, 2009

“Pursuit of Happiness” is the latest track to leak from much lauded Midwest MC Kid Cudi‘s upcoming album Man on the Moon: The End of Day dropping Sept. 15. This track is slowly changing my opinion of Cudi. I’m a beat-lover so I dig that the production credit for “Pursuit” goes to Brooklyn-based DJ duo Ratatat who consistently churn out dreamy digital beats. MGMT show up on the hook, adding their creepy-kid vocals to Cudi’s lament. Were it anyone else, the slow-rap-singing wouldn’t normally gel with me, but there’s something soulful about Cudi’s monotonous tone-it makes you relate to the idea of driving, blunted out of your mind, along a Midwestern highway err, freeway, on the search for something more. The Youtube link is after the jump.
